Ukrainian Canadian School Board - Toronto Branch:

The Ukrainian Canadian School Board must be credited as the underlying force behind this project. Thanks to the President, Luba Zaraska, for her support of Ukrainian education.

Personal note: This site is dedicated to the memory of Marta Trofym-Tarnoweckyj.

"Pani Marta" was a Ukrainian school teacher, an artist, a poet and - most significantly for me - a student. At the age of seventy, having retired from her professional career as described above, Pani Marta decided to enrol in my computer courses at the Ukrainian Canadian School Board in Toronto.

She was my best student; she was able to overcome numerous technical barriers, most of which often lead people one-quarter her age to abandon the computer. Her patience and perseverance allowed her to master the wordprocessing skills necessary to continue her passion for writing and publishing.

Pani Marta passed away in 1998 at the age of seventy five. Everyone who encountered her will always remember her dedication to teaching in the Ukrainian school system, as well as her love for the students that attended her classes. She will always be an example to all who need inspiration to live life to the fullest.

Below is a reproduction of a watercolour painting that she completed and gave to me in 1996.
